Happy Sunday before St. Dominic’s Day! Remember that the feast of our parish patron, St. Dominic, is this Tuesday. August 8th. For St. Dominic’s Day the parish will be having a special Mass combined with Evening Prayer at 7:00 p.m.., followed by a dessert potluck in the Church Hall. We would love to pack the Church with all of St. Dominic’s members for this event. So please joyfully consider coming to celebrate our wonderful parish and our patron, St .Dominic.
As we move closer to the feast of St. Dominic, I encourage you all to continue to say the prayer to St. Dominic for us, St. Dominic Parish. Even if you have not started praying the prayer to St. Dominic you can start today, praying we, St. Dominic Parish, will be the parish we ought to be: zealous and hungry for the word of God, seeing God’s presence and love all around us in our lives, and strong desire to share God’s love and the good news of Jesus Christ with all those in our lives just like our holy patron St. Dominic was. If you did not get a copy, or lost it, from the bulletin last week feel free to take one of the copies in the pew home with you today! Through the prayers of our patron, God’s priest and confessor, St. Dominic, may we receive an abundance of God’s grace in our lives.
Also in the spirit of St. Dominic, I want to invite you all the Frist Profession of Vows of our Novices the Saturday after St. Dominic’s day, August 12th at 9:00 a.m. This is a holy and wonderful time in the life of a friar to move from the novitiate to the being a professed brother in the Order in vows. Their vows will take place in the context of Morning Prayer, with our Provincial (our major superior) from Chicago, Father Jimmy Marchionda, OP, presiding. It should be just under an hour with a lovely reception to follow in the Church Hall. Come and celebrate this milestone in the religious lives of our novices with their, family, friends, and the friars. We would love to see you all there!
In St. Dominic,
Fr Wes, OP
